Top Holiday Spots in Northern Cyprus

More and more people each year are flocking to Cyprus on their holidays and it is really not hard to see why. There are many great locations to see in Cyprus and so much to do for people of all ages. It is a modern country with alluring beaches and fragrant mountains and great villages to visit.

Kyrenia and the Beauty it Holds

If you are looking for a beautiful place to visit in the northern part of Cyprus, you may be interested in Kyrenia. It is most renowned for being a town full of history and it also has a historic harbour, too. Everything about the town is calm and relaxed and the scenery truly is beautiful. A lot of money has been spent on making Kyrenia a great tourist destination and a good place to live, but you can still see peasant markets in various areas.

In history, Kyrenia has been around since the end of the Trojan War and it was then that settlers from Achaea in Peloponnese came to stay. Many tombs dating from 1300-500BC have been discovered there and it seems that the town's early population was able to thrive due to the fertile soil, good climate and plenty of water that was available.

There is plenty to do in Kyrenia and even if you are not particularly interested in history, you will find that there are plenty of shops where you can shop till you drop! You can find literally everything that you need from antiques to modern designer outlets. There is also a beautiful garden that you can visit called the garden of Northern Cyprus. There you will find citrus orchards, fertile plains and verdant forests.

The Levantine Flavor of Famagusta

Famagusta was founded by the Egyptians and it is basically an old, walled city. There are craftsmen in the city who still create jewelry and pottery from years that have passed.

It is thought that Famagusta dates back to the Neolithic age, which was generally 7000-3900BC. That is the age that the first settlements that were found date back to. Many people like to think of Famagusta as an outdoor museum as there really is so much history there to see. However, nobody truly knows much about the city's history as there are no written records, only traveler's accounts from the past.

Famagusta is an excellent city to visit and it can be quite a quiet area, too, as you can drive for miles and not see another car. There are deserted beaches to explore, plenty of open countryside and if you do like history, the ruins of Salamis will be of great interest to you. Really Famagusta is an historical place and so if you do not really like history you may not enjoy your stay here very much!

Overall, there is plenty to see and do in both Kyrenia and Famagusta and they truly are both beautiful places to visit. If you are looking to get away from it all and experience new things, you cannot go wrong with either of these places.
